Mere Coincidence?

My eldest sister had a brain tumour 15 years ago. This in itself is a remarkable coincidence because the chance of any one individual getting one is around 0.00016%, and we now have two in our family! She’s fine now by the way.

But what is extra-extraordinary is that I just found out her originally assigned neurosurgeon at the time was Professor Poon Wai Sang - who is also my neurosurgeon!! What are the chances of that?

He didn’t actually end up doing her surgery because he kept being pulled away to attend emergency cases (seems that he was already the man back then). But a pretty remarkable coincidence, nonetheless.

I have my final consultation with the Professor tomorrow. I’ll be confronting him with tough questions such as, “Can I get a video recording of the surgery?” and “can I set up my Playstation in the recovery ward?”.

  1. Hi Uncle Tak,
About Professor Poon, my friend in church is his patient since her childhood. I've heard about his kindness for long. More, we found the powerful Google Translate. Mom & Dad are happy to read your blog in Chinese daily. From now on, pls think about the wish list including your favorite meal, entertainment during your recovery at our home. We don't have playstation here... but u could bring your own. Other things will be ready here upon your arrival. Also little Evan will be very excited about singing with you ... "We will We will Rock U" !!

  3. Your eldest sister had a brain tumour 21 years ago (not 15...).

Given the rare chance, you two should try your luck with Mark Six. :p

  4. Hi bro,

It just so nice that everyday when I look at your blog to see all the comments from the family and your friends, the support they are giving you and the love we are showing to each other as a family.
Because of your independent British upbringing, I think this whole thing would be a such good experience for you.

    Love bro.
